On Sunday the 29th of January, the Mayflower Theatre erupted with sounds of Southampton, celebrating everything musical and raising money for Mayflower’s Youth Charity, Engage. With over 300 performers with a wide age range, there was something for everyone with uplifting music and sensational singing from the likes of opera singer Barbara Howells, Southampton Rock Choir and Showcase Young Voices Choir.

Organised by the ReesLeisure team and Showcase Performance Company, the night started off with a dramatic drum sequence and a exciting first song ‘Let Me Entertain You’ to kick the night off with a bang.

The hosts for the night included: Chris Rees – Business Development Director ReesLeisure, Tim Daykin – Presenter from BBC Radio Solent, Alastair Welch – Port Director ABP Southampton, Michael Rockwell – Chief Executive Mayflower Theatre, James Gough – Director Culture Southampton, Councillor Cathie McEwing – Mayor of Southampton.

Each choir and singer had their own unique voices and sound and brought so much life into the theatre, including 14 year old Lucy Hallett who regularly performs with Annie and Les Miserables. Classically British songs such as Word of Union, Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory filled the rooms with audience voices joining in and enjoying the entirety of the performers on stage. Flags at the ready, everyone thoroughly enjoyed the chance to be part of a celebration of Southampton talent and supporting a great Charity.
