Southampton Welcomes Breastfeeding

Overview

Across Southampton we have launched a Breastfeeding Welcome Scheme, in partnership with Southampton City Council and Solent Health, to provide breastfeeding families with a comfortable and safe environment in which to feed their babies when they are out and about.

We want families to feel comfortable to breastfeed in public. Although the law protects families to do so (The Equality Act 2010), feedback has shown that families are still discriminated against and feel anxiety around feeding in public. We aim to help support these families.

We are a charity, and this is completely free for organisations, businesses and venues to join. Once our short checklist is completed, you will be added to our list of family friendly Southampton venues. Stickers, with our brand-new scheme logo, will be sent to you to be displayed in your windows, the stickers are a recognised logo and will indicate to visitors that they are welcome to breastfeed whilst with you.

Venues and businesses are also added to our list on the Breastfeeding Network website; part of a national scheme which is popular for families use for planning days and weekends out in Southampton. Information is also shared on our ever-growing social media platforms.

We are delighted to be running this scheme in Southampton and just want it to grow and grow.

If you would like to join our other wonderful venues, including Paultons Park, BlueStar Buses, Southampton City Farm, Harbour Lights, Imagination Corner, Southampton City Libraries and many many more.  We would love to hear from you.

Please note we also run a number of breastfeeding support groups across the city, all of which are free for all families to access.
