From the 20th July to the 22nd of August, Southampton Guildhall Square will be home to it’s very own beach! Yes that’s right, real sand and inflatables. As part of a growing community of businesses wanting to build the city and attract more of it’s residents to enjoy more events, Southampton Bid and Go Southampton have brought local vendors together to organise this spectacular display. With over 100 activities to take part in over the course of 34 days, Seaside in the Square will be in the heart of the city centre for all to enjoy.
And the best part? It’s all FREE! Everything from Beach Volleyball, kids activities, Beach Yoga, Outdoor Cinema and a bar by successful cocktail house and club Orange Rooms there really is something for everyone.

We went down for the VIP launch and to take a look around at the freshly laid sand and be the first to sample the deckchairs and Aperol Spritz bean bags. Music from SamFM filled the square and having our toes in the sand in the middle of the city was a little strange! The event also teamed up with Ikea to include a small garden with little sheds. A competition ran to design the interior of the mini sheds, and the best three were chosen to be painted, built and showcased here.
So Why a Beach?
As well as the activities and events inside the beach, it is also a hope that this feature will bring business to the surrounding cafes and restaurants. Overall with an aim to help build the collective outlook of the city. Some perceptions may be that there aren’t many local, free, and exciting events, but this will hope to change all of that with coverage also from the BBC and ITV.
Head down to Seaside in the Square to check out the bar or just relax on the beach!
